Introduction: What is a WordCamp?
You may have heard about WordPress. WordPress is a CMS or content management system, but also a blogging platform. In simple words, WordPress is a blogging software program, which is available for free. You may be familiar with Google’s blogger or blogspot. WordPress is like Google’s blogger but more robust. It also allows a ton of customization, using WordPress plugins.
A lot of Internet websites use WordPress. It is quite popular, even if you don’t know about it yet. There’s a world-wide community behind WordPress.
WordCamps are local conferences organized and volunteered by people enthusiastic about WordPress. It also spreads awareness about WordPress. It’s a volunteer-driven event and happens each year.
In India, it started with WordCamp Mumbai, 5 years ago. Now, other cities like Pune, Nasik, recently Udaipur and Kochi have followed suit. All these WordCamps were very successful and people loved the event.
I attended a WordCamp for the first time in March 2016 with some friends. This year, I’m a volunteer at WordCamp Mumbai 2017, WCMumbai 2017 for short. It happens each year at Manik Sabhagriha at Bandra, Mumbai. Yes, WordCamps are a paid event. But, I guarantee that you’ll love the event. You’ll also have two days of fun and learning – and get some great connections even for your business.
